Sacred Shaking

Sacred Shaking is about releasing trapped emotions, painful memories and traumas. It’s entirely body-based with a simple set of easy physical exercises followed by lying down to shake and release that which no longer serves you. There is no coaching or talking about your story, it’s an entirely physical experience.

Sacred shaking is an ancient healing practice rooted in the primal wisdom of the body. Indigenous cultures across Africa, Asia, and the Americas have long used shaking rituals through dance, drumming, and trance to release trauma, commune with spirit, and restore balance. In traditions like Kundalini Yoga, Qigong, and the Shaking Medicine of the Kalahari Bushmen, shaking is seen as a path to spiritual awakening and emotional purification.

From a scientific standpoint, sacred shaking is increasingly understood through the lens of trauma release. The body stores stress and trauma in the nervous system, often manifesting as tension or disassociation. Shaking triggers a neurogenic tremor, a natural reflex observed in mammals after danger has passed, which allows the body to discharge stored survival energy. This mechanism underpins therapies like TRE (Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises), developed by Dr. David Berceli.

Modern neuroscience supports these ancient practices. Shaking activates the parasympathetic nervous system, helping to down-regulate the fight-or-flight response and restore calm. It boosts circulation, releases endorphins, and reconnects mind and body.
